May
National Day of Prayer
National Day of Prayer was first observed in 1952 after Congress passed, and President Harry Truman signed, a bill proclaiming a national day of prayer. In 1988, Congress passed a bill fixing National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May. For two decades, Coral Springs has observed this unifying day with a ceremony in front of City Hall to recognize the religious and cultural diversity that’s right here in the City.

Memorial Day Ceremony
Attend the annual ceremony and be there to honor local veterans and current military members with the moving tribute. The ceremony includes a wreath laying and 21-gun salute by the Coral Springs Police Honor Guard. American Legion members, along with other veterans, always deliver moving speeches about their time and experience in the service. Veterans Park is located at 8601 Royal Palm Blvd.

This committee, and others throughout the City, hosts myriad multi-cultural events each year, including National Day of Prayer, International Day of Peace, International Dinner Dance, CommuniTEA and much more.

Flag Day Ceremony
This event draws perhaps the most questions and concern from the public each year – Why are people burning an American flag? The American Legion comes out to burn frayed, tattered or faded flags as prescribed in U.S. law. It’s a site to behold in front of City Hall. Residents are invited to bring in their old flags for proper disposal.

November
Voting - Election Day
Everyone should take their civic responsibility seriously each election and not just every four years when a presidential election rolls around. Residents can impact every area of the political arena, all the way from the top to local commissioners and county judges. Sometimes amendments pop up that can have far-reaching effects, and the only way you can have an impact is to vote. Visit browardsoe.org for more information about voting and registering.

Veterans Day
Each year, the City hosts a ceremony to honor our local veterans. The ceremony usually includes speeches by veterans, a 21-gun salute, and wreath placement on a memorial inside Veterans Park. Residents always turn out in full force wearing patriotic colors to support troops, past and present.

December
City of Coral Springs Holiday Parade
The Holiday Parade rolls along Sample Road each year toward City Hall, drawing hundreds of spectators who cheer on the floats, bands and performers. Each year is a different theme; in the past, it’s been sports and even a boat parade. Local businesses stay open late to accommodate all spectators. It’s not an event to miss.

Kreul Classic
Coral Springs attracts top sporting competitions that bring in athletes from across the globe. Two take place at the Coral Springs Gymnasium – the Kreul Classic and Men’s Masters tournaments. The Kreul brings together top high school athletes in the country’s most prestigious tournament, which also gives scholarship to local non-athlete students to attend Florida Atlantic University. The Men’s Masters National Championship attracts more than 50 teams playing in seven men’s division and two newly added women’s divisions.

Other ways to get involved:
Volunteer on a committee
Citizen participation in government is a key to Coral Springs’ success. There are many committees that cater to all interests. The Customer-Involved Government Committee closely merges residents with local government, while the Youth and Family Committee focuses on planning and presenting family friend events. For a complete list, visit coralsprings.org.

Adopt a Street
Broward County sponsors this program that lets residents take responsibility for a piece of pavement. Volunteers are responsible for monitoring their adopted street and removing litter four times a year for two years. Look around town for signs indicating someone has adopted a street.

Attend a local school advisory meeting

Attend a local high school or community league sporting event
Take in one of the many sporting events Coral Springs has to offer. Cool off inside and watch a hockey or figure skating challenge at Incredible Ice, or enjoy the fall breeze watching football, soccer, basketball and more. The Aquatic Complex offers swimming and diving programs, while the Coral Springs Gymnasium presents myriad classes from karate to modeling.
